Watercolours Beginners

  • Watercolour Beginners in running again for a third year.
  • This class is ideal for beginners wishing to learn the basics of watercolour painting.
  • It will also be very useful for anyone wishing to improve their technique and re-visit basic methods.

Suggestions for materials

  • Pencils – HB, 3B, 6B
  • Rubber
  • Notebook
  • Watercolour Paper – Quarter Imperial size (11 x15inches) – 140lb minimum weight NOT surface. – Loose sheets, a book or block.  Bockingford or Saunders Waterford.
  • A drawing board.
  • Gummed tape.
  • Watercolour paintartist quality – quality rather than quantity.
  • You will be learning how to mix colours from a limited palette.
  • Suggestions:
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Ultramarine (warm blue)
  • Phthalo blue (cool blue)
  • Permanent Rose (cool red)
  • Cadmium Red (warm red)
  • Lemon Yellow (cool yellow)
  • Indian Yellow (warm yellow).
  • A palette – plastic palette with decent sized wells or
  • A large white plate.
  • 2 Water pots (jam jar size)
  • Kitchen roll
  • Brushes – synthetic or natural/synthetic hair.
  • 1 round wash brush size 10/12
  • 1 medium round brush size 6/8
  • 1 rigger brush size 2 (a long thin brush)
  • 1 medium hake.
